What is the Dropdown Field?

Dropdown is a field that allows you to create a pre-defined list of options when creating records. Let's say you want to keep track of a specific project, you can set a dropdown field to have options that represent the different stages of your project.

Your options could include; in-progress, canceled, ended, with this, you can update your team or anyone with access to your board about the stage of a specific project stated on a board.

How to create a Dropdown Field on a Board

To create a Dropdown field:

  1. Click on Create New Fields button on a fresh board or click on the + symbol to the right of the last field header in the Table view.

  2. This pops up a form page, on which you click on Field type to select the Dropdown field.

  3. Input the list of options you want to appear on the Dropdown field along with a custom color.

  4. Input the name and description. You can also input some words in the hint field.

  5. Mark any of the boxes (Required, Make field unique, and hide on Table ) to define special characters for the field.

  6. Then click on the submit button to append the field to the board.

When is a Dropdown Field Required?

You use the dropdown field whenever you don't want to type common terms all the time. Instead, you can set a pre-defined list from which you can select the single option you need.

💡Note:The drop down field type does not accept default value outside the available options.
