What is the Dropdown Field?
Dropdown is a field that allows you to create a pre-defined list of options when creating records. Let's say you want to keep track of a specific project, you can set a dropdown field to have options that represent the different stages of your project.
Your options could include; in-progress, canceled, ended, with this, you can update your team or anyone with access to your board about the stage of a specific project stated on a board.
How to create a Dropdown Field on a Board
To create a Dropdown field:
Click on Create New Fields button on a fresh board or click on the + symbol to the right of the last field header in the Table view.
This pops up a form page, on which you click on Field type to select the Dropdown field.
Input the list of options you want to appear on the Dropdown field along with a custom color.
Input the name and description. You can also input some words in the hint field.
Mark any of the boxes (Required, Make field unique, and hide on Table ) to define special characters for the field.
Then click on the submit button to append the field to the board.
When is a Dropdown Field Required?
You use the dropdown field whenever you don't want to type common terms all the time. Instead, you can set a pre-defined list from which you can select the single option you need.
💡Note:The drop down field type does not accept default value outside the available options.
